Breaking the rules on lighting placement

Breaking the rules is invigorating, we all know that. Rethink what the chandelier or a suspended light can do to the room before you decide to place it smack where “it’s supposed to be”. Look how successfully it applies to these two beautiful spaces:

The Ralph Lauren store in New York has the chandeliers placed above the seating as opposed to in front of it – although it’s unclear as to what came first – a graceful effect that positions a buyer, instead of the merchandise, at the center of light.

The Ya Ge Restaurant in Taipey by Tony Chi has suspended lights everywhere on the perimeter of an ornate ceiling – they look like ballroom dancers in the air swirling around the room.
