Look again – National Art Gallery

We often find ourselves dismissive toward the familiar. The quest for novelty is socially promoted as a virtue, a higher aspiration; to the detriment of the well-known that is often associated with the banal, the boring. And we don’t want that.
And yet the power of archetypes and clichés is indisputable. It’s almost like a hidden shame that despite the fact that we always look for something new, we always fall for the same things.
And so I think it is important to be able to look with a fresh mind at what has maybe become ordinary and taken for granted  and absorb what it is that it can still, and ever so powerfully, offer.
